Creative Writing

If your love of English or History is directed equally towards writing as reading, you can divide your time on this joint honours course between these two complementary subjects.

As well as studying the extraordinary and diverse history of literature from Britain and around the world, you’ll learn how to write creatively for both adults and children in a variety of genres such as crime and thrillers, historical and children’s fiction.

The English & Creative Writing course provides excellent contact with experienced staff and outstanding individual support. The team create an environment that will encourage you to achieve your potential and fulfil your ambitions, whilst the recently established Goldstein library is an archive on campus that will provide a valuable resource for research.

The course will introduce you to a variety of writing styles and skills, including writing for children, poetry, drama, life writing and more. It also encourages specialisation through in-depth exploration of literary periods, styles and genres including historical fiction, crime and thriller, romance and gothic, Victorian writing and post-war British writing.

Students will develop throughout the duration of the course their own creative interests and ambitions realised through independent projects.
